Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan, February 22, 2023 – Securitize Japan, the leading tokenization platform in Japan, has collaborated with Mizuho Research & Technologies Co., Ltd. (“MHRT”) and NTT DATA Corporation (“NTT DATA”) to build a Digital Engagement Platform for Mizuho Bank Ltd, (“Mizuho Bank”).

The collaboration allows Mizuho Bank to provide a platform that enables issuers to have direct communications with their investors utilizing blockchain technology.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the development of Japanese finance together with Mizuho FG, a major Japanese financial institution," said Eiji Kobayashi, Securitize Japan’s Country Head.

Mizuho Bank has launched this platform aiming at issuers of financial products particularly government bonds and corporate bonds.

Securitize was selected as Mizuho’s platform provider because of the company's outstanding capabilities and global track record within its industry.

Securitize has partnered with NTT Data to reimagine the security token platform for the Japanese market. The provision of this platform is a part of this collaborative business, and we will continue to work towards further development of the platform.

Background Information

In traditional finance, products such as government and corporate bonds are managed only by financial institutions such as securities companies and it makes it difficult for issuers to access investors’ information timely.

With this platform, it will be possible to provide issuers with investor’s information that was previously difficult to obtain, subject to the prior consent of the investor. Issuers can expect increased engagement with investors through the provision of benefits and company information to investors, and investors can obtain investment benefits beyond just financial results.

Key Features

  • Mizuho is utilizing the security token (ST) platform provided by Securitize.
  • The platform allows issuers to have direct contacts with investors, allowing them to take measures to increase investor engagement.
  • Each securities company registers their investors’ information through the Securitize platform, and the Issuer can send emails to obtain consent for information sharing, select benefits to be granted, and send notification emails of input forms for obtaining simple questionnaires. The information of those who agreed to share information with the issuer can be shared with the issuer. The issuer can use the information to award points and benefits. This will enable more flexible product design and direct marketing by issuers to investors.
  • Cross-sectional system use with each stakeholder.
  • By utilizing this platform, it will be possible for each financial institution involved in the sale to jointly register investors eligible for benefits. At this time, since it is possible to control investor information that each company can access, it will be a mechanism that prevents unnecessary information sharing. This enables flexible collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
  • The platform is built by connecting the Securitize platform to the blockchain infrastructure built by MHRT and NTT DATA for Mizuho Bank. The Securitize platform allows clients to choose from a variety of blockchains. In addition, Securitize provides a general-purpose API at the application level, and can flexibly respond to future business management systems and external linkages.

Additional details are available in this press release from Mizuho Research & Technologies.
